Panacea Black Label Review

Panacea Black Label Review

Black Brazilian Maduro, Torpedo; a newer boutique brand hand made in the Dominican Republic., by the Flatbed Cigar Co. This is a Brazilian maduro. Cuban seed Seco & Ligero, Olor Dominicano, and Nicaraguan highlights make up the interior. The binder is Dominican. Was got a sampler pack. Great deal!

Nice construction, beautiful, even tobacco. The pre-light draw had hints of subtle sweet and wood.

The Panacea Black has a delicious flavor profile. Once lit, the subtle sweetness remained for the first half. Then made a gradual transition to a bit of spice through the remaining. The body pleasantly medium to full throughout. Lit easily. Stayed lit! Fabulous! Nice tight ash. Consistent even burn! Creamy , ample smoke…YeAh! Definitely try the Panacea cigars.

Flatbed Cigar Co. is putting out some excellent, affordable cigars. They carry natural and maduro lines in robusto, torpedo, toro, and perfecto vitolas. And yes, I did say affordable!

Cigar Laws and the ICAA- My thoughts

Cigar Laws and the ICAA- My thoughts

I went to a hearing this week.  I found it very disturbing.  there are some really horrible changes to existing businesses , and the law will make it next to impossible for any new cigar establishments ever opening in Oregon.

House Bill 2726 Modifies definitions of “cigar bar” and “smoke shop” for purposes of Oregon Indoor Clean Air Act and directs Oregon Health Authority to establish certification system for smoke shops.

The changes are ridiculous. They want no more than 40 seats in existing cigar bars.  What does a fire marshall know?  Regardless of size of venue. This won’t affect income right?

They want to regulate but are not really sure how- air quality. There is in place a law that states shops have air cleaning systems in place.  Should not this be an issue with the regulations in place for those air cleaners? Just make sure their industry standards are up to par. And the right size unit is in place.  Isn’t that part of licensing regulations anyway? Also, they want to regulate and talk of monitoring humidity in the humidors. Matter of taste actually- and the humidors are compliant with what industry standards dictate.  What does our government know about cigars and humidity?

They want to do inspections with no warning on all sorts of things. Health department already does- ok. But the IRS even needs an appt to
see your financials. These people – if this passes- will not. They will require cigar lounges to keep records for seven years. Ok.- but come up on spot – no appt? Income? Who are these people? What again are they trying to protect?

the goal of these laws it so prevent underage minors from becoming addicted to smoking. And I am all for that. Teens (girls especially) are the highest growing segment for smoking cigarettes. Really thought this was a no brainer. there are already laws in place to protecting  minors. Let’s enforce these laws with the same people that monitor grocery stores etc and no need to put into place a compliance police force just for smoke shops, cigar shops, and cigar bars, which are for people over age.

I do not know about the average person. But if I do not want to buy perfume- I don’t go into a perfume shop. Same for shoes. I know going into a cigar shop they (gasp!) sell cigars and there will most likely be a person smoking one in there. I am of age. I enjoy the occasional cigar.

I have enjoyed hookah. There are no additives making them , unlike  like the chemicals in cigarettes – and I do not need protection from myself in this instance- thank you big brother.  Maybe if you policed the donut shop or my favorite clothier, or made my happy butt get to the gym more and showed up at 6 am to ensure I do so. This I can get behind!

Cigar vendors in Oregon  pay more than their fair share of taxes, and employ a good number of people. Truly- please write in to protest. Existing laws being enforced are more than adequate. The IRS has more give on seeing your financials than this proposal, and more stupidity that makes me ill. And just try and find it on ‘google’- these proposed changes….pretty quiet about it. Let’s not sit by.
Action please!

Contact your local representative and let them know you don’t support this measure.

My Father Cigars : Cabaiguan Guapo

My Father Cigars : Cabaiguan Guapo

I love Tatuaje, this has been followed up with Cabaiguan, a cigar named for Cabaiguán, Cuba, located almost in the direct center of the
island.

I read the Cabaiguans have been made for Pete Johnson, owner of the Tatuaje brand, by the Garcia family since 2006, first in Miami and
later in Nicaragua. The success of the original one size inspired Johnson to make an entire line of Guapos, in natural and maduro versions, for a combined eight sizes.
The original Guapo has an interesting appearance with an impeccably crafted head and a tiny tail that’s wider at the top than at the bottom.

First Impression *
Very nice looking cigar. Interesting ‘twist’ at the cap. I am told
this is a triple cap. First cigar of the new year- went with the
natural. Nice clean cut. Nice pre-draw.

Taste *
Quick burst of pepper, but quickly became balanced and pretty smooth.
Along with the balanced flavor are sweet but not  too much so – slight
notes of cocoa, a hint again of black pepper and some light woody,
leathery intonations. Pleasant. Complex enough as develops to hold
attraction, and never got to be overpowering. Did get warmer toward
end. Did like the slight sweetness and am not usually a big fan of
such.

The Burn *
Very nice tight ash! Great draw. I tend to get a bit chatty while
smoking and this one stayed lit. Bonus.
